Implementation of a Community-based Tourism Development Project focusing on the Central, Northern and Eastern regions of Sri Lanka Under a financial grant of the Korea Tourism Organization

- The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has proposed to implement a "Community‑based Tourism Project" under the financial assistance of the Korea Tourism Organization, focusing the Kuchchaweli Tourism Development Zone owned by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. A delegation of the Korea Tourism Organization has conducted a feasibility study on the relevant project proposal and extended its willingness to grant a financial assistance of 2.172 billion Korean Won for the implementation of the proposed entire project. A consensus has also been reached to provide a sum of of 400 million Korean won for preparation of the overall plan of the relevant Tourism Development Project, training program and for the implementation of a pilot training program as its first phase. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Tourism and Lands to enter into an agreement between the Korea Tourism Organization and the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority for the implementation of the proposed project, was approved by the Cabinet.
