4th Cycle of the Universal Periodic Review of the United Nations Human Rights Council

- According to a Resolution adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2006 all the Member States would be subjected to a Universal Periodic Review. It provides the Member States the opportunity to declare the steps taken at the national level to upgrade the human rights situation of their States and fulfill their human rights obligations. Each Member State should conduct its review every 4 years. Sri Lanka has participated in 3 cycles and the next review is scheduled to be take place on 2023‑02‑01. Cabinet decided to grant its concurrence for the measures taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for conducting a self-assessment regarding the steps taken so far since the last Universal Periodic Review through the Sri Lanka's National Report to be submitted under the 4th Cycle of the Universal Periodic Review.
