National Framework on Eco-labeling in Sri Lanka
- Producers need to carry out their production activities sustainably and the consumers need to consume products and services responsibly and prudently in order to ensure the long term environmental, social and economic well‑being. For the purpose, scientific methodologies such as standardization and certification to prove the “Assurance of Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns” have to be introduced as stated under Sustainable Development Goal No.12. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Environment to implement the National Framework on Eco-labeling enabling to ensure the environmental performance of productions to other supply chain stakeholders including their customers and the customers or purchasers to make decisions of purchasing relevant products with credibility, was approved by the Cabinet.
