Amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure Act (Chapter XXX - Inquests of Death)

- A committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of Prof. Raveendra Fernando to identify appropriate amendments to the existing legislation, procedures and practices pertaining to the conduct of inquests into deaths and submit recommendations. It has been found necessary to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure Act to make necessary provisions to implement the recommendations of the said Committee. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms to take necessary action to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, was approved by the Cabinet.
