Offering incentives to migrant Employees to promote remittance through legal channels

- Approval of the Cabinet has been granted at its meeting held on 2022 08 08 to offer identified incentives for Sri Lankan migrant employees with a view to promoting remittance through legal channels. Accordingly, the Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment has issued relevant circular instructions and eligible migrant workers are facilitated to import a two-wheel electric motor vehicle subject to a maximum value of US$ 25,000 and a four-wheel fully electric motor vehicle subject to a maximum value of US$ 65,000. As such, it was decided to grant the concurrence of the Cabinet for the following measures taken with a view to to further promoting the remittance of foreign exchange earned by migrant workers to Sri Lanka, submitted by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment for the attention of the Cabinet:

* Granting permission to import a two wheel electric vehicle of CIF value up to 50% of the amount of foreign exchange remitted until 2023 04 30 or until the date of applying to import a vehicle.

* Granting permission to import a four wheel electric vehicle of CIF value up to 50% of the amount of foreign exchange remitted from 2022 05 01 to 2023 12 31.
