Establishment of the ''Food Policy Committee''

- The Government has recently established a multi-sector mechanism with a view to empowering rural economic revitalization Centers following a bottom-up strategy in arriving at decisions pertaining to ensuring food security and nutrition. The entire production and distribution mechanism of essential food commodities will be guided and monitored through this mechanism while ensuring the availability of such commodities to the most vulnerable segments of the society at different administrative levels. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. President to establish the ''Food Policy Committee'' chaired by the Secretary to the President with participation of the Heads of the relevant Institutions to address the short term problems relating to supply, price and marketing and implement long - term programmes to build confidence among manufacturers, traders and consumers on supply chain operations in the country, was approved by the Cabinet.
