Accession to the Protocols relating to amendments of Article 50(a) and Article 56 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention)
- Sri Lanka has agreed to amend the Protocols relating to amendments of Article 50(a) and Article 56 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention) at the 39th session of the International Civil Aviation Organization Assembly. Provisions will be provided to increase the number of members of the Council from 36 to 40 by amending Article 50 (a) whereas provisions will be provided to increase the number of members from 19 to 21 of the Air Navigation Commission. At present, 60 Contracting States have ratified these two protocols and both protocols shall come into force on the date of deposit of the 128th Instrument of Ratification. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation to accede to both protocols by Sri Lanka as a Contracting State, was approved by the Cabinet.
