Reviewing the recruitment process in the public service
- Arrangements made to filling the vacancies for the approved posts as per the provisions of Service Minutes and Schemes of Recruitment has to be stopped due to the decision made by the Government to temporary suspend the recruitment to the public service under the prevailing economic situation. Although there is a surplus of public servants in the public service as a whole due to the direct recruitment of graduates and employees under other service categories by following the approved Schemes of Recruitment and under the policy decisions made by the previous governments, it has been reported that there are vacancies in certain service categories. Further, appropriate action need to be taken on issues which have arisen in the public service as a result of adopting various recruitment methodologies. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government to appoint an Officials' Committee chaired by the Secretary to the Prime Minister to identify priorities pertaining to the essential recruitment to be made to maintain the public service efficiently and effectively and determine the time frames for the same and submit appropriate recommendations to the issues which have arisen in the public service at present, was approved by the Cabinet.
