Introduction of a Comprehensive Legislation on National Security

- It has been identified the necessity of introducing a comprehensive national security legislation to address the gaps of existing counter terrorism legislation to introduce provisions relating to novel and contemporary dimensions of terrorism and violent extremism, preparation for such acts, law enforcement and further strengthening investigative and monitoring tools. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by the Hon. President in his capacity as the Minister of Defence; the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to appoint a Committee chaired by the Secretary to the Ministry of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms to prepare a preliminary draft for a comprehensive legislation on national security taking into consideration the international standards/ recommendations pertaining to the protection of the human rights and paying attention on all relevant matters, was approved by the Cabinet.
