Amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, No.15 of 1979

- The Criminal Sub-Committee coming under the Special Unit of the Ministry of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms has recommended that it would be appropriate to amend the relevant provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, No.15 of 1979 by incorporating provisions enabling to reckon the time spent by a person in custody or any part thereof as part of the term of office, in considering appeals of such person convicted by the Court. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a draft Bill to amend the section 323(5) of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, No.15 of 1979, was approved by the Cabinet.
