Introduction of National Guidelines and Minimum Standards for Child Development Centres in Sri Lanka
- Child development services operate island wide under the supervision of the Department of Probation and Child Care Services in order to ensure the protection, care and physical and mental well‑being of children who have become orphaned, helpless, abandoned, abused and faced legal problems. Although, Guidelines and Charters designed in relation to the child development centres are being operated in provincial level but national level accepted guidelines are not in operation. Accordingly, the “National Guidelines and Minimum Standards for Child Development Centres in Sri Lanka” submitted by the Hon. President in his capacity as Minister of Women, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment and designed under the supervision and guidance of experts in the relevant field representing all stakeholders related to the childcare sector, was approved by the Cabinet.
