Commencing the provision of Japanese Language Proficiency at the school level
- Sri Lankans are eligible to apply for employment in 14 fields under the Specified Skilled Workers Programme as technical interns as per the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of Japan. Proficiency in Japan language is an essential qualification for that and the relevant qualifications should be obtained from the examinations conducted at several levels. It has been planned to recruit around 345,000 workers for the employment in Japan under the Specified Skilled Workers Programme during the next five years and the Japan has entered into agreements with 7 countries including Sri Lanka for this purpose. Taking into consideration the said matters, the proposal made by the Minister Labour and Foreign Employment to commence the teaching of Japan and English languages under the technical subject scheme implemented in Schools at present and to develop soft skills in the fields of nursing, hospitality, building cleaning, agricultural works motor mechanism or electrical or electronics aiming the employment in Japan,was approved by the Cabinet.
