Amendments to the Kandyan Marriages and Divorce Act

- The Cabinet at its meeting held on 2021‑10‑26 has granted approval to draft legislation to repeal the part II of the Kandyan Marriages and Divorce Act that requires parental consent for the marriage of a minor and remove the inconsistencies therein. Accordingly, the clearance of the Attorney General has been received for the draft Bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman. The proposal made by the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms to publish the said draft Bill in the Government Gazette and present the same thereafter in Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
