Amending the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No.2 of 1996

- It has been recognized that the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act presently in force should be amended, enabling to give effect to Agreements to which Sri Lanka is bounded regionally and internationally and introducing provisions for the sustainable management and conservation of fisheries resources. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Fisheries, to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft legislation to amend the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No.2 of 1996, so as to suit to the present day requirements, was approved by the Cabinet.
