“A Democratic, Prosperous, and Resilient Sri Lanka Programme”
- Two Agreements have been signed between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of the United States of America in 2011, to secure funds for the programmes of “strengthened partnership for Democratic Governance and Social Cohesion” and “Sustained and Inclusive Economic Growth” and the said two programmes have been implemented accordingly. A proposal has been made to enter into a new agreement for securing a grant of US$ 57 million awarded by the United State Agency for International Development (USAID), in order to implement a new programme with the name of “Democratic, Prosperous, and Resilient Sri Lanka” to be effective until 2026, mainly focusing attention on the areas of effective democratic governance, inclusive, market driven growth and resilience of resources to shocks and stresses. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies to conduct negotiations for securing the said grant, was approved by the Cabinet.
