Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2022-05-23
Extension of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Sending and Receiving of Workers to the Republic of Korea under the Employment Permit System
- Both countries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Sending and Receiving of Workers to the Republic of Korea under the Employment Permit System. Sri Lankans receive job opportunities in South Korea for a period of 4 years and 10 months as per the said agreement, and it is possible to extend that duration further, depending on their performance. The said MoU should be biannually renewed and accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment to sign a new MoU for a further period of 2 years under the same terms and conditions of the previously signed MoU or for a period of time agreed by the Republic of Korea, was approved by the Cabinet.
