Declaration of the Tusker “Nadungamuwa Raja” as a National Treasure

- The Tusker “Nadungamuwa Raja” that paid its contribution in carrying the Sacred Relic Casket of the Temple of sacred Tooth Relic for 13 times since 2005 to 2021 and participated in the processions of several leading Buddhist temples in the country, passed away on 7th March 2022. At the moment, measures are being taken to preserve the body of this tusker. Taking into consideration the contribution it had rendered for the cultural festivals in the country, the proposal made by the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs to declare “Nadungamuwa Raja” as a national treasure, was approved by the Cabinet.
