Making a lump sum payment for the revival of families of missing persons
- Policies have been formulated to rebuild and restore the lives of persons who aggrieved from grievances under various circumstances, in terms of policies and guidelines on reparations. Accordingly, the relevant families should be provided with donations in keeping with the already prepared policies, enabling to promote the reconciliation for wellbeing and protection of all Sri Lankans including future generations. In terms of the Office on Missing Persons Act, No.14 of 2016, issuance of Certificate of Death or a Certificate of Absence is recommended to the Registrar General after conducting a proper investigation on missing persons. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice to make a lump sum payment of Rs.100,000/- to the next of kin of the missing person holding a Certificate of Absence issued by the Registrar General based on the matters uncovered by the Office on Missing Persons, for the revival of the family, was approved by the Cabinet.
