The project to establish an Enhanced Transparency Framework for Agriculture, Forestry and other Land Use Sector
- Sri Lanka functions as a party of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) since 1993, and has ratified the Paris Agreement in 2016. The Ministry of Environment acts as the national focal point of the UNFCCC. In terms of the provisions of the said agreement, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of Sri Lanka have been submitted to the UNFCCC on 2021‑07‑30 and under that Agriculture and Forestry have been identified as 02 key sectors. According to the section 13 of the Paris Agreement, the partners shall report the progress of the climate change related activities in a transparent manner. Therefore, a project has been designed in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations under the consultation of the Ministry of Environment with a grant of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in order to formulate the framework with enhanced transparency for the sectors of agriculture, forestry and other land use. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has expressed its willingness to provide a grant of US$ 863,242 under the Global Environment Facility to implement the said project. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Agriculture, to implement the said project and to sign an agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in order to obtain the relevant grant for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
