Granting incentives for the Promotion of Remittances from Migrant Workers

- Approximately US$ 7-8 billion is remitted annually to the country through the foreign employment sector which is a main source from where Sri Lanka is receiving foreign exchange. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Labour to increase the incentive paid for remittances from its present rate of Rs 10 per dollar to Rs. 38 per dollar with a view to encouraging remittance of the foreign exchange earnings by the migrant workers during the forthcoming festival season, evaluating migrant workers and providing more economical benefits to them and their dependents, was approved by the Cabinet.
