Donation of wheelchairs and other mobility aid to the Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Hospital (RRH), Ragama
- It has been reported that nearly 1,500 people suffer with spinal injuries per year. The Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Hospital (RRH), Ragama is the national centre where patients in need of such rehabilitation treatment services are referred to. Annually, about 200 wheelchairs, 350 walking aid and 100 prosthetic kits are required for the patients in the said Hospital. A global humanitarian aid organization, Latter Day Saint Charities (LDSC) in the United States of America has agreed to provide a donation of Rs.43.70 million to provide training to the staff of the Hospital and to supply mobility aid comprising 564 wheelchairs, 370 walking aid and 410 prosthetic kits. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Health to sign an Agreement with the relevant institution to accept the said donation, was approved by the Cabinet.
