Importation of Muriate of Potash (Potassium Chloride) for Paddy Cultivation in the Yala Season

- Muriate of Potash is a commonly employed Potassium fertilizer and is used by farmers as thicken fertilizer for paddy cultivation. During the Yala season in 2022, farmers expect to cultivate paddy in an area of 600,000 hectares and it has been calculated that 38,500 MT of Muriate of Potash fertilizer will be required for the purpose. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Agriculture to import the said fertilizer adopting the International Competitive Bidding Procedure and distribute the said fertilizer among farmers under the Government's Subsidized Fertilizer Programme, was approved by the Cabinet.
