Resumption of Production at Embilipitiya Paper Mill under the Public-Private Partnership Scheme

- The Embilipitiya Paper Mill, owned by National Paper Company Ltd has been closed since 2012. Even though, approval of the Cabinet has been previously granted to provide the land where the said Factory was located and the buildings thereon to Korean Spa Packaging (Pvt.) Ltd, a local investment company, for a period of 30 years, action could not be taken as per the said Cabinet decision since the said land has not been formally handed over to the National Paper Company Ltd. Arrangements are being made to provide the land in extent of 111 Acres 02 Roods 33 Perches, where the said Factory was located to National Paper Company Ltd on long term lease basis. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Industries to resume the production of the Embilipitiya Paper Mill under the Public-Private Partnership Scheme, after entering into an Agreement with conditions where National Paper Company Ltd and Korean Spa Packaging (Pvt.) Ltd reached a consensus, was approved by the Cabinet.
