Implementation of the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity (SL-UDI) Framework

- The Government has decided to implement the task of establishing the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity (SL-UDI) Framework prioritizing as a national level programme. Under the said proposed Digital Identity Framework, it is expected to introduce an irrefutable foundation/physical identity instrument based on biometrics, digital credential enabling the representation of persons within the Cyber space and the unique identification within Digital, Physical and hybrid environments by tight coupling of the said two devices. It has been agreed during the bilateral discussions held between the Hon. Prime Minister of India and H.E. the President of Sri Lanka in December, 2019 to provide a grant of the Indian Government for the implementation of the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President in his capacity as the Minister of Defence to make the relevant arrangements to sign an MoU for obtaining the said grant and to implement the proposed project under the said grant, was approved by the Cabinet.
