Conferring of the land enjoyed by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation in the Kuchchaveli, Trincomalee

- The “German Voice” short and medium wave transmission centre was established and maintained in Kuchchaveli of Trincomalee in terms of an agreement signed between the Deutsche Welle, the broadcasting service of the German Republic and the Government of Sri Lanka, in 1980. In 2012, the activities of that transmission centre and its possession have been entrusted with the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and 90% of the said premises is used for the activities of that transmission centre. It is also possible to utilize the said premise for generating solar power, without causing any hindrance to the functioning of the transmission centre. Therefore, the Cabinet approved the proposal made by the Minister of Mass Media to confer the said land to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, enabling to implement a solar power generation project as a source of income earning of the said Corporation.
