Implementation of the Projects identified for promotion of Buddhist Heritage between Sri Lanka and India
- The Government of India has expressed its concurrence to award a grant of LKR 2.89 billion during a period of five (05) years, to promote cultural and public ties between Sri Lanka and India and to implement projects identified for further strengthening the co‑operation of Buddhist Heritage of both countries. It has been planned to implement projects identified in association with the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious & Cultural Affairs and the High Commissioner of India pertaining to development of infrastructure facilities, capacity building, cultural affairs, archaeological collaboration, exhibition of relics of Lord Buddha in Sri Lanka and promotion of Buddhist tours to India. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious & Cultural Affairs to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of India to implement the proposed programme, was approved by the Cabinet.
