Importation of Rice from Myanmar (Burma) for stabilizing the price of rice in the local market

- The Cabinet at its meeting held on 2021‑09‑27 has granted approval to import 100,000 MT of rice enabling to provide adequate quantity of rice to the consumers without any shortage and to maintain buffer stocks of rice. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Trade to import 20,000 MT of rice at US$ 460 per one MT from Myanmar through the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation on Government to Government method based on an Agreement entered into between the Government of Sri lanka and the Government of Myanmar, was approved by the cabinet.
