Progress of Mega Scale Development Projects by the end of Third Quarter - 2021
- 332 Mega Scale Development Projects are being implemented under 47 Ministries exceeding Rs. 1000 million in the year 2021 and their duration will expand up to 2030. The total investment value of these projects is Rs. 6899 billion. 95 projects out of which amounting to Rs. 2642 billion in value are new projects commenced in the year 2021 to achieve the goals of the Government Policy Framework “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour”. Under this, projects have been commenced pertaining to the fields of health, education, potable water supply, road network development, improvement of irrigation system and township and rural development. The smooth functioning of these projects has been hampered by the shortage of building materials and labours, restrictions on imports as well as immigration and emigration due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation prevailing in the country. Nevertheless, an amount of 63% out of the targeted expenditure of Rs 448 billion has been spent for these projects. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Development Co-ordination and Monitoring to seek the participation of the Ministry of Economic Policies and Plan Implementation, Ministry of Finance and the senior officials of other relevant Government institutions for the progress review meetings conducted monthly with a view to solving the problems which arisen pertaining to the said projects enabling to implement the said projects within the stipulated time frames and to receive the benefits of the same to the General public, was approved by the Cabinet.
