Enhancement of the National Traffic Database and Capacity Building

- With the increase in volume of traffic, the necessity has arisen to establish a mechanism for the management of traffic on national highways, especially on roads within the City of Colombo. With a view to updating the existing data at the Road Development Authority for the purpose, a request has already been made through the Department of External Resources to seek the assistance of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Under the proposed programme, the Ministry of Highways intends to formulate a national level Traffic Data Management Plan, establish a foundation for collecting traffic data, design an automated Traffic Database Management System and enhance the Traffic Demand Analysis Capability. For this, the proposal made by the Minister of Highways to implement the “Enhancement of National Traffic Database and Capacity Building Project” by securing a grant from the KOICA and to sign a Record of Discussions between the Ministry of Highways and KOICA confirming the implementation of the said project, was approved by the Cabinet.
