Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2021-11-01
General Policy Guidelines pertaining to the Electricity Industry
- Approval of the Cabinet has been granted at its meeting held on 2021‑09‑13 for the major policy targets such as achieving 70% of the electricity generation from the renewable sources by the year 2030, not establishing new coal power plants in future and neutralizing the Zero Carbon Emission that takes place in power generation by the year 2050. And also, it has been decided at the said Cabinet meeting to issue the 'General Policy Guidelines' for the Power industry in terms of the said Cabinet decision and to formulate the Least Cost Long Term Generation Plan by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) pertaining to the period of 2022‑2041 in accordance with the said guidelines. As such, approval of the Cabinet was granted for the 'General Policy Guidelines for Electricity Industry' prepared in terms of the provision of section 5 of the Sri Lanka Electricity Act, No.20 of 2009 and to table the said guidelines, as proposed by the Minister of Power.
