Global Energy Compact for ''No New Coal'' Global Clean Power Transition Statement
- The 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has been scheduled to be held from 31st October 2021 to 12th November 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland in the United Kingdom. At this Conference, It is anticipated to review the implementation of the Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement and to arrive at necessary decisions to further develop and implement those agreements. The United Kingdom that holds the Presidency of this Conference, in collaboration with the United Nations and several other member countries has planned to set up a “No New Coal Power Compact” to commit for a clean energy agenda. The signatories of the said Compact will abide to immediately cease the issuance of new permits for unabated coal-fired power generation projects and to cease new construction of unabated coal-fired power generation projects as of the end of the year. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Power to extend the support for the said Compact, was approved by the Cabinet.
