- Sri lanka has signed the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora on 1979‑05‑04 as a member country of the said Convention. The Cabinet at its meeting held on 2016‑09‑06 has granted approval to amend the Fauna and Flora Protection Act No. 22 of 2009 to enable to enforce the provisions of the said Convention locally. Accordingly, the clearance of the Attorney General has been received to the amended Bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Wildlife and Forest Conservation to publish the said Bill in the Government Gazzette and to present the same thereafter in Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
