Establishment of an Industrial Zone at Welipitiya Divisional Secretariat Division of Matara district

- In view of promoting regional level manufacturing industries, the Ministry of Industries implements the Regional Industrial Estate Development Program. It has been planned to establish a new development zone in a block of land in extent of 200 acres in the core of Charley Mount Estate/Hallalawatta in the Welipitiya Divisional Secretariat Division, focusing on the industries in Matara district parallel to the recently implemented infrastructure development projects in the Southern Province. Accordingly, taking into consideration a proposal made by the Minister of Industries, approval of the Cabinet was granted in principle to implement the said project and pursue action to allocate the blocks of land required for the said project and the identified priority projects for the development of the area as well, from the blocks of land in the relevant estate belonging to the Land Reform Commission that cannot be used for economically effective cultivation.
