Amendment to the Civil Procedure Code (Chapter 101)
- Although new provisions have been introduced to the Civil Procedure Code on the ''Pre-Trial Process'' by the Civil Procedure Code (Amendment) Act, No.8 of 2017 in order to expedite legal proceedings and reduce the time consumed in adjudication, in 2017, objectives anticipated by such amendments have not been achieved. Therefore, it has been identified that further amendments are needed to be made to the ''Pre-Trial Process'' enabling to achieve the expected outcome. Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal made by the Minister of Justice to amend the Civil Procedure Code as recommended by the Committee appointed by the Minister of Justice to study matters relating to the Pre‑trial and establishment of Small Claims Courts and submit recommendations and thereafter get drafted the bill for the purpose by the Legal Draftsman.
