Amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, No.15 of 1979
- Approval of the Cabinet has been granted at its meeting held on 2020‑09‑28 to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, No.15 of 1979 to make new provisions to Section 144A to set down a procedure which does not require a suspect or an accused person to be produced in person before the Magistrate for the purpose of the extension of an order relating to the committal to remand custody and to Section 241A to set down a procedure which does not require the accused in respect of whom a trial is pending or has commenced in the High Court to be produced in person before the High Court Judge, provided special circumstances at present. Accordingly, the relevant Bill has been drafted by the Legal Draftsman and clearance of the Attorney General has also been received for the same. Therefore, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice to publish the said Bill in the Government Gazette and thereafter present the same in Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
