Amendment to the High Court of the Provinces (Special Provinces) Act, No.19 of 1990

- Approval of the Cabinet has been granted at its meeting held on 2021‑06‑14 to draft a new law to make provisions for special procedure of Small Claims Courts and to amend the Judicature Act No.2 of 1978 in order to establish a Small Claims Courts. The need has been identified to amend Section 5 (A) of the said Act to include the Small Claims Courts in the list of Primary Courts mentioned in the High Court of the Provinces (Special Provinces) Act, No. 19 of 1990 in order to be able to comply with the new law and the proposed amendment. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft legislation to amend the said Act, was approved by the Cabinet.
