Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mines Bill

- An agreement has been reached on a Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti‑Personnel Mines and on their destruction, at the Diplomatic Conference on an International Ban on Anti‑Personnel Land Mines held at Oslo on 18th September, 1997. Accordingly, Sri Lanka has acceded to the said Convention on 13th December 2017 and the Government of Sri Lanka is bound to enact the relevant legislation for the purpose. Clearance of the Attorney General has been received for the Bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman for the purpose. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice to publish the said Bill in the Government Gazette and present the same thereafter, in Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
