Motor Vehicle Fleet of the Government

- A Report including the following information on the Motor Vehicle Fleet of the Government was brought to the notice of the Cabinet by the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Economic Policies & Plan Implementation.

* There are 82,194 vehicles belonging to Government Institutions including Ministries, State Enterprises and the Provincial Councils and Local Government Authorities.

* Out of them, 76,661 vehicles are in running condition while 5,533 vehicles are not.

* Out of the vehicles in running condition, there are 33,931 vehicles belonging to Government Institutions including Ministries, 26,395 vehicles belonging to State Enterprises and 16,335 vehicles belonging to Provincial Councils and Local Government Authorities.

* Further, approval has been granted to provide a monthly allowance to around 8,500 Senior Officials at State Institutions and use their personal vehicles for official traveling purposes. Taking into consideration the above information furnished by the Minister of Economic Policies & Plan Implementation, it was decided by the Cabinet to renovate and make use of the vehicles that may be repaired, out of those which are not in running condition at the time expeditiously and dispose of the vehicles which can not be repaired without any delay, following the formal procedure.
