Appointment of Committees to make recommendations on disburse claims for the damages caused by the fire of the MV X-Press Pearl Maritime Disaster

- An amount of Rs. 720 million has been approved as the first interim claim to be paid to the parties affected by maritime damage caused by MV X-Press Pearl fire. Accordingly the Cabinet approved the proposal made by the Hon. Minister of Justice to appoint a committee chaired by the Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries and comprising of officials from other relevant institutions to make recommendations on the payment of compensation to the fishing community and to appoint a committee under the chairmanship of the secretary to the Ministry Finance and comprising of secretaries to the other relevant Ministries to pay compensation to the affected parties other than the fisheries sector.
