Restructuring of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Industry in Sri Lanka
- The Cabinet, at its meeting held on 2021‑06‑07 decided to appoint a Cabinet Sub-Committee chaired by the Minister of Trade to obtain recommendations pertaining to restructuring of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Industry in Sri Lanka. Accordingly, the Cabinet granted approval to implement the following recommendations submitted by the Cabinet Sub-Committee based on the outcome of the discussions heldwith the representatives from the Gas companies in Sri Lanka, relevant Government Institutions and Banks and the experts in the field.

• Continue selling a 12.5kg domestic gas cylinder at a price of Rs 1,493/- by the Litro Gas Limitedand LAUGFS Gas PLC as currently determined by the Consumer Affairs Authority.

• Purchasing, transporting and storing of gas by both companies jointly and using the Hambanthota Gas Terminal for that.

• Appointing a Committee comprising of officials with expertise knowledge in the field including representatives from the Litro Gas Ltd and LAUGFS Gas PLC for maintaining the procurement process of purchasing gas required to the country and transporting and storing same in a proper manner.

• Implementing themethodology recommended by the Sub-Committee within next 06 months and take future action upon outcome of the same.
