Transferring the title of the Kurunduwatte land located in Ekala, Ja-Ela, enjoyed by the Sri Lanka Transport Board as a Free Grant
- Even though the possession of the Ekala Estate in the Kurunduwatte land 23 acres 01 rood 16.5 perches in extent, located in Ekala, Ja-Ela in the Ja-Ela Divisional Secretariat Division has been given away to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) in the year 2017 in terms of the provisions of Section 44 of the Land Acquisition Act, it has not yet been transferred to the said Board by way of a Free Grant. The warehouses of the Ja-Ela Depot are being maintained in one part of this land which has been enjoyed by the Sri Lanka Transport Board for a period of nearly 50 years and manufacturing of bus bodies and some other projects of Lakdiva Engineering Company (Pvt) Limited take place in another block of land in extent of 17 acres, of this land. Lakdiva Engineering Company (Pvt) Limited has planned to establish and maintain a Repair and Service Centre for dilapidated vehicles of the Ministries and Departments. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Transport to transfer the above land to the Sri Lanka Transport Board as a free grant to enable the said land to be utilized for investment purposes of the Sri Lanka Transport Board and Lakdiva Engineering Company (Pvt) Limited including the said proposed project and to implement the same through a Public‑Private Partnership, was approved by the Cabinet.
