Establishment of the Export Agro Value Chain Development Industrial Zone at Mahaheentenna area in Elpitiya

- It has been identified that there is a potential of gaining market opportunities and entering into high standard markets by enhancing value added products in the field of export agriculture thereby fetching a higher amount of foreign exchange to this country. In view of facilitating such projects, it has been planned to establish an Export Agro Value Chain Development Industrial Zone in a land of 64 acres in extent belonging to the Land Reforms Commission, at the area of Mahaheentenna in Elpitiya. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Plantation to evaluate the business viability under the Agriculture Sector Modernization Project which operates at present, as the first phase of this project and give away blocks of land to 14 recognized agricultural entrepreneurs to commence projects and to appoint a Committee headed by the Secretary to the State Ministry in‑charge of the subject for selecting agricultural entrepreneurs under the second phase of the project, was approved by the Cabinet.
