Special Programme to provide investment opportunities for business development and set up industries at Divisional Secretariat level in island wide

- The Ministry of Industries together with the Ministry of Youth & Sports have planned to implement an industry and enterprise development programme at divisional secretariat division level with the objective of minimizing the regional imbalance of development, maximizing the use of rural resources as well as encouraging entrepreneurs in the industrial sector who expect to generate employment opportunities in rural areas. Under this, it has been planned to implement at least one project at each Divisional Secretariat division with the intention of promoting especially the small and medium scale enterprises thereby increasing the employment generation having created a network of strong entrepreneurship at rural level, promoting value - added productions utilizing resources/raw-materials dispersed at divisional level, while promoting exports and encouraging import substitutes. Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the joint proposal made by the Minister of Industries and the Minister of Youth & Sports to encourage and provide facilities to the entrepreneurs/investors who are investing at least Rs.100 million and promoting the inauguration of industries/ enterprises that generate at least 50 employment opportunities in the field and encouraging the existing industries/ enterprises.
