Payment of compensation to the people affected by the establishment of the Anuradhapura South and Anuradhapura North Multi-Transport Centres

- The Anuradhapura Joint Urban Development project is carried out by the Ministry of Urban Development & Housing on the funds provided by the French Development Agency (AFD). The prime objective of this project is to improve urban services and public places in the city of Anuradhapura while preserving its cultural heritage. It has been planned under this project to develop the Anuradhapura new bus stand as the Anuradhapura South Multi‑Transport Centre and to remove the Anuradhapura old bus stand and the long distance service bus stand from those places and to develop the same as the Anuradhapura North Multi‑Transport Centre in close proximity to the Anuradhapura main Railway Station. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Urban Development & Housing to pay compensation to 302 families to be affected by the said projects subject to the relevant criteria, taking into consideration the nature of the impact, was approved by the Cabinet.
