Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2021-05-31

Submission of Regulations issued under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, No.1 of 1969, for approval in Parliament

- In view of promoting the use of organic fertilizers for agricultural products, the Cabinet decided on 2021‑04‑27 to ban the importation of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Finance to submit the Imports and Exports (Control) Regulations promulgated under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, No.1 of 1969 pertaining to the implementation of the said Cabinet decision, for approval in Parliament, was approved by the Cabinet.
