Opening of Batticaloa, Vauniya and Jaffna Dedicated Economic Centres

- The Dedicated Economic Centre Programme has been initiated so as to sell the agricultural products of the farmers directly and to implement the price mechanism more efficiently through competition and 15 such Economic Centres are functioning countrywide at present. Accordingly, construction work of Batticaloa and Vauniya Dedicated Economic Centres have been completed and the construction work of the phase I of the Special Economic Centre in Jaffna has been completed by now. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Agriculture to establish the Management Committee for the administration of the said Special Economic Center and to allocate business premises of such Economic Centres following a formal methodology, was approved by the Cabinet.
