Amendment to the Major Statutes relating to Local Authorities

- The Legal Draftsman has formulated the relevant legislation to update the Municipal Councils Ordinance, Urban Councils Ordinance and the Pradeshiya Sabhas Act, the major Statutes relating to the Local Authorities,which have been enacted decades ago. The Attorney General has pointed out several further amendments to be made to these Bills. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Public Services, Provincial Councils & Local Government to take necessary action to further amend the said Bills already formulated incorporating the said amendments and to seek the views of the Provincial Councils in terms of the provisions of Article 154G of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, was approved by the Cabinet.
