Implementation of Phase II of the Project for Improving Management of the Marine resources in Sri Lanka with the Technical Assistance from the Government of Norway
- Phase I of the Project for 'Improving Management of the Marine resources in Sri Lanka' has been implemented under the Bilateral Corporation between the Governments of Sri Lanka and Norway, within the period from 2017 to 2020. It has been proposed to implement the Phase II of the said project also under the Norwegian Grant Assistance. Under the proposed project, it has been planned to pursue action in collaboration with the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) of Norway and the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) of Sri Lanka for the purpose of improving management of the marine fishery resources in Sri Lanka. Improvement of collection, storage and use of fisheries data and enhancing the capacity of fisheries research for sustainable management of marine fishery resources are to take place under the said Phase of the project. As such, the proposal made by the Minister of Fisheries to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) of Sri Lanka and the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) of Norway for the implementation of the proposed project, was approved by the Cabinet.
