100kW Solar Power Generation Programme implementing under private sector investments by connecting to the distribution transformers under the renewable energy promotion
- It has been planned to obtain maximum amount of energy from the electricity requirement of the country from the renewable energy sources by the year 2030, while adapting the government policy framework “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour. Further, it is expected to implement the said renewable energy projects mostly under the private sector investments. Accordingly, it has been planned to implement a renewable energy generating project by connecting land based solar power plants to 7000 distribution transformers belonging to the Ceylon Electricity Board and Lanka Electricity Company (Pvt) Ltd. It is expected to implement single solar power project for identified one transformer under this project and to invite bids under competitive procurement process from persons and institutions registered under business names register of the Divisional Secretariat to select investors for this purpose. The investment for the construction of single solar power plant is approximately Rs 12 million and the relevant plant has to be built on a land in extent of 40 perches in close proximity to the transformer. Accordingly, taking into consideration the proposal made by the Minister of Power, the Cabinet granted approval to implement the proposed project within 18 months as a rapid project.
