Introduction of a Transit Card for the Public Transport Service of Sri Lanka and implementation of an Electronic Fare Collection System

- Public Transport Service of Sri Lanka relies on fares and with a view to avoiding the hardships resulting in, approval has been granted at the Cabinet Meeting held on 02nd October 2018, to appoint a Steering Committee comprising of representatives from all the relevant institutions, to implement a project for introducing a Transit Card for the use in Buses and Trains belonging to public transport. As such, a local Company, Lanka Clear (Pvt) Ltd. which is 100% affiliated to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) with its approval, has submitted a proposal for the proposed Transit Card Project and based on such project proposal, the proposal made by the Minister of Transport to take necessary action for the use of Transit Card in the island, was approved by the Cabinet.
